Teen’s First Guitar

OK, so he grew up with a guitar maker. Now he’s a better guitar player than his Dad so the time is right. I donated a 4′ long 50 year-old piece of quilted mahogany to the young fella and he’s on his way. It started with this great chunk of wood which by the way rings like a bell when tapped. After a bit of chocolate cream pie it was cut into pieces, thickness-sanded to the right size then laid out side by side for a good grain match. We transferred his very cool design to the wood to see how it looked. He was pleased. Next is joining the halves together and getting on with the work. Unlike the uke we made together when he was 8, the kid’s using all the power tools this time.

Let your kids play folks…Let them take some chances and dream. Get dust in their hair and a few cuts and splinters. Once kids learn that they hold all the keys…
